Open Letter

Legislature—Jerry Brown

Proposing to cut 1 billion from state universities and 400 million from community colleges is outrageous. This big of a cut is going to diminish the already small selection of classes from Foothill College and other schools.  Most classes are already filled, restricting some students from being enrolled in classes that are required for graduation and transferring to other universities.  Inflation has already raised the cost of items such as library books and other textbooks necessary to excel in class.
I feel that the government is able to make other cuts that do not involve the education system. It is already hard enough to get a seat in a class let a lone all the credits needed for graduation.  These cuts will result in foothill letting their staff go, raising tuition and possibly reducing enrollment because of the higher tuition costs.
Many students are already on the brinks of not being able to afford the current tuition, textbooks, and other materials needed such as transportation and living conditions. A raise in tuition, cuts to student services, and larger class sizes are frightful thoughts for a majority of people. Some students need the after school facilities and services as well as smaller class sizes for the teacher student relationship and attention. As a voter I, as well as many other students, would like the cuts to come from somewhere else besides education system, perhaps the military..

Sincerely,
       Ca$h mOney
